Dreams of New Beginnings - When Everything Suddenly Seemed Possible
It may be just a brief moment captured in a black and white photo, but this instant captures a time when everything suddenly seemed possible. A pastor is speaking at the microphone in front of hundreds of people. They are literally at his feet, sitting in the aisle of a church in Rostock. The photo was taken in the Marienkirche during the upheavals in East Germany in 1989/90. And the people in the church were listening to the man who today, 25 years later, has become the German President: Joachim Gauck. But who were the young people who were so close to Pastor Gauck at that time? And where are they now? How do the former schoolgirl Ruth, her schoolmate Sören or the former shipyard worker Werner see those heady weeks today? What dreams did they have for themselves and for East Germany - and what happened to them?
